With its 100 cases, France becomes the 7th country most affected by the coronavirus epidemic. If the number of deaths has not changed, however, concern is growing with regard to the evolution of the situation in Italy. The French government has taken new measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.
On the evening of February 29, 2020, France declared 100 cases of Covid-19. As Le Point indicates, of these hundred cases, 86 are in the hospital, including 9 in serious condition . In a single day, our country therefore has 43 additional cases after going to a stage 2 alert. According to the Director General of Health Jérôme Salomon, this increase is the result of a investigation successfully carried out in the Oise , after the discovery of a cluster of cases. A total of 36 cases have been reported in this department alone. Thus, more than a hundred schools have been closed by the Academy of Amiens.
Earlier in the day, President Emmanuel Macron chaired a defense council and a council of ministers. Following these meetings, the government announced new measures. First, all gatherings of more than 5,000 people in a confined environment will be canceled throughout the territory. The last day of the Agricultural Show is canceled as well as the Mipim real estate show in Cannes (postponed to June). This is also the case for certain outdoor events such as the Paris half-marathon this Sunday, March 1, as well as the Annecy Carnival next weekend. Some municipalities and companies have also prohibited gatherings and group activities.
