The Chinese government has partnered with two major local companies to develop a new QR code system with different colors. Depending on the assigned code, citizens are likely to be asked to stay at home for a longer or shorter period. This is a way to fight against the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
As the Hong Kong daily South China Morning Post reported on February 21, 2020, the latest report shows nearly 77,000 confirmed cases Covid-19 coronavirus for 2,247 deaths . We should also mention the number of people cured:10,438. If the epidemic is running out of steam with a sharp drop in the number of new cases, the work is not finished.
In its fight against the spread of the epidemic , the Chinese government seems to have added a string to its bow. As the Reuters news agency explained on February 17, a new mobile application has been developed in collaboration with Alibaba and Tencent, two digital giants in China. It is a question of allocating a QR code to citizens, this allows them to know their state of health. For now, the application has only been imposed on residents of Hangzhou, a city which, like Wuhan, has been under containment measures for several weeks.
Inhabitants must first fill out an online form and enter their identification number. They must also indicate if they have traveled out of town recently and report whether or not they have symptoms such as fever and cough. After the procedure, residents are assigned a QR code that can be scanned by a third party. This code now acts as a pass in different establishments, from administrative buildings to hospitals and supermarkets.
The QR code in question can be edited in three different colors:red, yellow and green. If the code is red, the person must remain confined to their home for fourteen days . In the case of a code yellow, this confinement period is seven days. Finally, a green QR code is synonymous with total freedom of movement. You should know that the arrival of this application in the city of Hangzhou was a simple test. In the following days, the device will be deployed throughout the country.
