Microsoft opens a school dedicated to artificial intelligence in Nancy

The US software giant, Microsoft, wants to train the first French technicians in data and artificial intelligence (AI) specializing in health. With this school at the Nancy CHRU, the objective is to advance health through artificial intelligence, a very ambitious project.

A 13th school in France for Microsoft

In a statement released by Microsoft on February 13, 2020, project leaders provided details regarding the 13th Microsoft AI School powered by Simplon in France. However, this will be the first in the series to be specialized in health. Inaugurated within the CHRU of Nancy, the school was financed by the Grand Est region. It is also a partnership with Simplon, a French start-up specializing in programming and digital learning.

Bernard Dupont, Director General of the CHRU of Nancy spoke about the project:

" Deploying artificial intelligence in a concrete way in the various hospital activities constitutes a strategic orientation of the CHRU of Nancy […] Unique in France and innovative both by its location and its sectoral theme around health, this school will offer key operational resources to support the CHRU's strong dynamic based on AI and digital technology and, beyond that, will meet the needs of the entire territory and its various economic, research and development actors. »

Future AI experts in healthcare

This Microsoft AI school, like the others, wants to contribute to economic growth and the development of innovation. It is also a question of supporting future talents, who will number 24. They will therefore be trained in the challenges and specificities of the world of health, while becoming experts in AI . According to Microsoft, the aim is to increase the skills of healthcare professionals, the quality of diagnoses, the precision of medical follow-up and the improvement of the care experience for the patient.

Three themes will be at the heart of the learning. We will find the processing of health data, the strengthening of the performance of caregivers as well as the improvement of the care pathway. The selected ones will follow an intensive training of 7 months within the CHRU from Nancy. Their training will then be completed by a professionalization contract of 12 months in companies in the region.

Finally, Microsoft recently distinguished itself by supporting a project called DreamWalker (“dream walker”). The goal? Allow users to walk down the street normally while being immersed in a virtual environment!
