During a press conference, new measures were announced by Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Jaap van Dissel of the RIVM and health care minister Bruins due to the developments of the corona virus in the Netherlands
The measures that were shared during the press conference are:
- Everyone in the Netherlands:stay at home if you have symptoms of a cold, cough, sore throat or fever. Avoid social contact. Only call your doctor if symptoms worsen.
- Meetings with more than 100 people are canceled throughout the Netherlands. This also applies to public locations such as museums, concert halls, theatres, sports clubs and sports competitions.
- People throughout the Netherlands are urged to work from home as much as possible or to spread their working hours.
- The following applies to vulnerable people (the elderly and people with reduced resistance) avoid large groups and public transport. In general, people are urged to limit visits to vulnerable people.
- For healthcare personnel and personnel in vital processes:a lot is asked of you. Only stay home if you have complaints and a fever. Consult with your employer if necessary. And also:do not travel abroad.
- Colleges and universities are requested to offer education online instead of large-scale lectures.
- Schools in primary, secondary and secondary vocational education and childcare will remain open:there are few infections there and the environment is less international. Moreover, children and young people are not the group with the highest risks. Moreover, the social consequences of closing these schools would be great and closing does little to limit the spread. Children who have a cold should stay at home.
Finally:the measures apply to the whole of the Netherlands until 31 March. That also applies to North Brabant.
