Unemployment among adults who have had cancer is nearly 40 percent higher worldwide than among healthy adults. This is apparent from a study by the Academic Medical Center (AMC) in Amsterdam.
The study shows that especially patients with stomach/intestinal cancer, breast cancer or a gynecological cancer it is more difficult to find work or faster out of work.
The AMC researchers, together with Finnish colleagues, analyzed the results of 36 international studies of adult ex-cancer patients and healthy adults.
Breast cancer in the Netherlands
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the Netherlands, followed by colon cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer and skin cancer. Together, the five most common cancers account for nearly two-thirds of all new cancers.
