From April 15, breast cancer patients can visit the Alexander Monro Hospital in Bilthoven. The new and only hospital in the Netherlands that exclusively treats breast cancer.
According to a European guideline, a hospital must treat at least 150 new patients per year to provide good care. In addition, breast cancer care is becoming increasingly complex. The Alexander Monro Hospital is taking a special step by focusing solely on breast cancer as a hospital.
Multidisciplinary treatment team
Patients of the Alexander Monro Hospital will always be seen and discussed by a multidisciplinary treatment team, which is specialized in breast cancer care. The hospital has the latest treatment equipment.
Preliminary investigation
Extensive research has already been done before the opening. For example, 100 (former) patients and their partners were interviewed about, among other things, how breast cancer care could be improved in their view. This has provided a basis for the design of the hospital and the care processes.
