Editor-in-chief Annalot eats sugar-free for a week: The cookies are calling me

The Santé editorial team is participating in the National Sugar Challenge:a week of food and drink without added sugars. That's how it goes now.

Boring muesli

Editor-in-Chief Annalot (44):“My breakfast today consists of a bowl of low-fat Skyr (natural) with strawberries and the dullest muesli there is – without sugar and dried fruit. The fresh strawberries still make it a bit sweet, so I don't miss the sugar and can spend most of the morning on it. As a snack I almost succumb to chocolate chip cookies (brought in for a visit), but I opt for a kiwi just in time. Proud!”

Slices of bell pepper

“I don't have much time for lunch. I quickly spread a few whole grain crackers and top them with hummus (yes, without sugar – checked), cottage cheese with cucumber and a vegetable spread from Mister Kitchen, also without additives. The biscuits almost call out to me from the drum, but I eat a few strips of bell pepper on character.”

No sugar dip

“A delicious apple in between (boring!) and in the evening I go for easy and quick with stir-fried vegetables, shrimp and a whole wheat wrap. Actually, this is a pretty standard eating day for me and I haven't missed the sugar that much either. So I didn't suffer from a sugar dip either, luckily. But had a lot of good appetite. Those cookies are a challenge for me. As long as I don't have them at home, it's no problem. But when they're in the closet, I find it difficult. I know from experience that one cookie is not a cookie, so it's best for me not to start at all. Because one bite means I want more. Apparently that's what sugar does to me. Wondering if I'll be able to resist them for the rest of the week!"
