Santé is a co-subsponsor of Team Continu:the skating team led by Marianne Timmer. Marianne shares a tip every day to stay fit with Santé.
Marianne: 'Healthy eating is choosing healthy and introducing regularity into your diet. That means three meals and two to three snacks a day.
The basis is a good breakfast, because:a good breakfast is good humor and concentrated. A healthy breakfast is rich in complex carbohydrates – our healthy energy suppliers – and low in fat. It also provides dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. This combination ensures that we get through the morning cheerful and concentrated. Those who opt for a sandwich meal in the morning, preferably with brown, wholemeal or multigrain bread, can easily meet this requirement. The breakfast is complete with a cup of milk or another milk product such as yogurt and some fruit. The toppings can vary from savory to sweet. Prefer lean spreads, such as low-fat cheese or low-fat meats. Sweet and low-fat toppings such as jam and (apple) syrup are preferable to sweet toppings that are rich in fats, such as chocolate sprinkles.
Those who are 'busy, busy, busy' are more likely to be tempted by all kinds of alternative breakfast products such as breakfast bars and breakfast biscuits. Sometimes useful, but usually at the expense of variation, regularity and fun. Some breakfast bars fall significantly short for breakfast due to their composition. They score better as a snack. The downside of many quick breakfast products and sweetened breakfast items is also the sweet taste, which many children love, but which should be avoided to prevent further sweetening of society.'
