American researchers recently launched a campaign that may make you smile. Indeed, it is a question of encouraging volunteers to take pictures of their excrement and send them. However, the pictures will then be analyzed by an artificial intelligence whose purpose is to establish a diagnosis.
It is clear that toilets and technology can sometimes be associated. At CES 2019, the American company Kohler presented its concept of smart toilets. This time it's about an artificial intelligence capable of analyzing excrement humans! This is a unique tool resulting from the collaboration between MIT and Auggi, a virtual gut health coach. Expert in microbiome health, the start-up Seed, is also part of the project.
According to an article by The verge published on October 29, 2019, feces can help tell if a person is healthy or not. Indeed, their visual aspect makes it possible to inform about the diet and the intestinal flora. It may also be a question of identifying problems and diseases of the digestive system. However, the project aims to create an AI-enhanced application able to analyze this kind of images!
In order to train their AI, the researchers together created an image bank of human stool. They first created fake feces with modeling clay and then made the rounds of images on the web. However, the number of shots was not large enough. That's why scientists launched a campaign called #GiveAShit . The goal? Find help from the population and thus build up a substantial image reserve.
Do you want to participate? Just go to the official project page with a smartphone. Then, it is a question of going through the steps until the snapshot is taken after going to the toilet. Helping Science has never been so easy! Joking aside, this research could in the near future lead to a mobile application capable of spotting intestinal diseases . The latter could therefore encourage people to consult quickly in case of doubt.
