While the electronic cigarette industry is in turmoil, a new news item has been reported. A Parisian was injured by the explosion of his electronic cigarette when he had just attended the birth of his first child.
Recently, Farouk, 36, was in the maternity ward of the Tenon hospital in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. The person concerned attended the birth of his son, what was to be one of the happiest days of his life as reported by Le Parisien in an article from November 3, 2019. After giving birth, the man goes to the nursery to take his child in his arms. One of the midwives then suggests that she go get some fresh air for a few minutes to breathe a little. He takes the elevator and suddenly, an explosion sounds. It was the accumulator of his electronic cigarette.
The subject stated that the explosion generated a significant noise, but also a lot of smoke and sparks . The worst was avoided, however, because Farouk was with his child a few minutes earlier! On the other hand, the explosion of the battery quickly caused him severe pain in the leg. Farouk was therefore taken to the hospital and the doctors diagnosed him with second and third degree burns at the thigh.
Such explosions are rather rare, but several cases have been reported in France and elsewhere in the world. According to The Independent, citing federal emergency agency Fema, there were 195 fires and explosions linked to electronic cigarettes in the United States between 2009 and 2016.
Farouk said he purchased the device just weeks before the incident. He also said he contacted the store in question, which simply told him to be careful. The man therefore decided to hire a lawyer and filed a complaint. The objective? Obtain a serious investigation in order to understand what really happened. The interested party believes that stores of this type that have a storefront should not sell such dangerous products . In addition, Farouk felt he was very lucky for his child, whom he was holding shortly before the explosion, but also for his genitals, which were close to the affected area.
Recall in passing that the "e-cigarette affair" in the United States could soon see an outcome. Juul, a company specializing in the sale of e-cigarettes, has just been accused of having sold 1 million contaminated products. This could explain the appearance of this mysterious lung disease that affected a thousand people for about twenty deaths.
