Skin damage from unprotected sun exposure can occur any time of the year, even winter. The highest level of care is usually during the summer months, but sun damage can occur all year round, even on cloudy or rainy days. Many people do not realize that you are also exposed to the sun through windows in the office, at home or in cars. That's why dermatologists recommend that everyone provide protection year-round. Here are some simple steps to avoid sun damage:
*Broad spectrum, physical blocker sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium oxide with 30 or higher SPF are best.
* Apply excessively liquid sunscreen, not sprays, including the sides of the face, ears, front and back of the neck, hands and arms, and any other skin exposed.
* New powder sunscreen makes it easier to reapply (even over makeup) throughout the day. Try again every two hours if there is a lot of sunlight in the office or workplace.
A common misconception is that using multiple sunscreen products, such as moisturizer and makeup, doubles the protection, which is not true. Some sunscreen ingredients can even deactivate others.
