Eczema is pretty annoying. It cannot really be cured, but with the right approach you can reduce it.
1. Try to find out what triggers eczema
Your eczema may be made worse by an external factor, such as the weather. But eczema can also be caused by a care product or even food. If you know what triggers your eczema, you can take that into account.
2. Adjust your clothes
Abrasive clothing is not nice if you suffer from eczema. Therefore, choose comfortable clothing made of fine material. Some people believe that air pollution causes them to get more eczema. If that's the case with you, it's best to cover your skin in the city with clothes.
3. Prevent dry skin
Lubricate your skin every few hours to prevent it from drying out and chapped. Dry eczema skin is unable to retain moisture itself and to produce sufficient skin fat. Lubricating ensures that the skin barrier remains intact and that you have less chance of itching.
4. Do not scratch
Scratching destroys the skin and ultimately worsens the situation. For itching, you can rub an ice cube over your skin.
5. Switch fabric softener and detergent
You can be sensitive to care products, including the products you use to do the laundry. Try switching, maybe your skin will benefit.
6. Extra vitamin D
Does your eczema decrease in the summer? That could be the influence of vitamin D. There is increasing evidence from studies that vitamin D tablets can reduce atopic eczema. Going into the sun also works, of course. Your skin may be exposed to the sun unprotected for a maximum of 15 minutes. Don't forget to protect your skin afterwards with spf.
7. Do not shower too hot
A hot shower is not good for any skin, because it dries out your skin. Especially if you have eczema, that's the last thing you want to do. Rather take a lukewarm shower and look for products that do not irritate your skin.
8. Go to the doctor
Does nothing help, or do you doubt what you can do or use to improve your eczema? Make an appointment with your doctor, who can help you further.
