The sun on your skin, your bare feet in the sand and a delicious piece of watermelon in your hand. During the summer holidays you are usually comfortable in your own skin, but once at home that often evaporates. Try to maintain these healthy eating habits after your holiday.
On vacation, people eat a lot more fruit, according to a study from the University of Montana - especially summer fruits like nectarines, peaches and mangoes. After the holidays, these disappear from the diet again. A shame, because these fruits are full of vitamin C, iron and provitamin A.
Even though the Netherlands is located by the sea, we eat fish on average only once every three weeks. That is different in Southern Europe, where fish is often on the menu. Tip:look for the tastiest fish dishes from your holiday country and prepare fish at least once a week.
In many Mediterranean countries, an extensive and warm lunch is a matter of course. That is good for your digestion. After returning home, replace the cheese sandwiches with a delicious hot lunch and eat a little lighter in the evening.
