This is the food diary of vegan Kim van Langelaar

Kim van Langelaar (29), owner of the vegan department store Shop Like You Give a Damn, talks extensively about her lifestyle in Santé 5. We take a look at her food diary.

Telling the vegan story to the world is what Kim van Langelaar of Shop Like You Give a Damn is good at. She had to do it as an introvert
step out of her comfort zone. “I now do everything that I used to run away from.” You can read the full interview with Kim in Santé 5.

Breakfast

“I only eat when I'm hungry. I always start the day with a large oat milk cappuccino. Usually I don't eat until about eleven or twelve o'clock, so that is my lunch right away. I often opt for two corn sandwiches from the toaster with vegan butter, a slice of Violife cheese or vega paté from Kips.”

Lunch

“Especially in the summer, we like to make smoothies in the afternoon. For example with oat and coconut rice milk, banana, a handful of frozen spinach and kale cubes, apple, linseed and cinnamon.”

Dinner

“I am a real junk food vegan and I love fries, pizza and cheeseburgers. We alternate that with healthy bowls with something like whole grain rice, bulgur, buckwheat noodles or pearl couscous, lots of vegetables, tofu, tempeh or vegetable 'chicken'. Every now and then we make spelled spaghetti with a cream sauce of soaked, unroasted cashew nuts, nutritional yeast, garlic, some lemon juice and zest, herbs and oat milk – with a good handful of fresh dill and green asparagus and broccoli on the side. Jam!"

In between

“I like to snack all day long. Healthy and unhealthy. A piece of cashew camembert, organic fruit from the hand, raw vegetables with curry hummus, a cinnamon roll from Albert Heijn, a chip or some vegan praline chocolate. I hardly drink alcohol. I am also moderate with coffee, one a day, but I drink herbal tea and water throughout the day.”
