IVF is a radical treatment. It is a good thing that research is being done into alternatives, such as flushing the fallopian tubes with poppy seed oil.
The VUmc has conducted research among 1,100 women who have difficulties conceiving. The fallopian tubes were flushed. This is intended to clean up dead cells and clots in the fallopian tubes. Half of them were rinsed with water, the other half with poppy seed oil.
Six months after the flush, 40 percent of the group that had been flushed with poppy seed oil was pregnant. In the other group it was 29 percent. It is suspected that oil ensures better implantation of the eggs.
Special:a gynecologist participated in the study, whose mother became pregnant herself in 1960 after having her fallopian tubes flushed with poppy seed oil.
