When you hear someone smacking, do you sometimes feel like dragging them away by their hair? Getting angry at eating noises is a condition that has been known for a while, but more research has now been done.
The condition is called misophonia. In the Netherlands there is already the Misophonia Association and therapy is offered in the AMC in Amsterdam. Yet little else was known about it.
A new British study shows that the brains of some people cause an extremely emotional response to certain sounds. That reaction is visible in the brain. In people with misophonia, the part of the brain that links feeling to emotions is very active, often expressing itself in anger when hearing certain eating sounds.
