The World Cancer Research Fund has followed 380,000 people from 9 European countries for 12 years and concludes that the risk of death is 34 percent lower due to a healthy lifestyle.
Ten recommendations have been drawn up to reduce the risk of cancer. The results of the participants who followed the recommendations most closely were compared with the results of the participants who followed the least. The first group had a 34 percent lower risk of dying from various diseases.
Risks
The people who followed the recommendations had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from cancer, a 44 percent lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease and stroke, and a 50 percent lower risk of respiratory disease.
Healthy food
Eating vegetables, fruit and other fiber-rich foods lowers the risk of dying from various diseases by 21 percent.
