Should You Practice the Lafay Method?

The Lafay method is a method of bodyweight training. Here is my opinion as a former practitioner of the method and a doctor of sports sciences.

Push-ups, pull-ups, crunches, squats on one leg... The Lafay method has enjoyed increasing success for the past ten years. among people aged 14 to 40, both men and women. It is deserved, although certain aspects of the method are in my opinion open to criticism. Let's review the pros and cons of the method.

A "rather" economical method :-)

An important thing that justifies talking about it on comment-economiser.fr, the Lafay method does not require you fits into a gym, or buys a whole range of expensive equipment .

However, although the method is said to be "without equipment", it still requires some purchases, or at least some arrangements of its furniture:pull-up bar, 19 € 73 at Amazon, solid chairs, chest of drawers to put your feet on... .

Quite repetitive :-(

As the method relies on a limited number of levels, a minimum performance is necessary to move to the next level. Thus, it is sometimes necessary to stay several months on the same series of exercises . This is sometimes frustrating, and some people become demotivated until they completely stop the method.

Allows you to develop your feelings, but superficially:-|

The Lafay method, because it requires (almost) no equipment, allows focus on execution , and no longer on the weight to be set in motion. This method therefore differs from the others, which consist mainly of lifting heavier and heavier loads.

Too bad the author does not put more emphasis on this quality of execution which is only touched on superficially, rather than on the search for an ever-higher number of repetitions.

A harmonious development, but neglecting the lower back:-|

With the Lafay method, men and women work on all aspects of their physical condition (strength, resistance, endurance, flexibility) along with theirvarious muscles (calves, thighs, abdominal strap, chest and arms).

I regret that lumbar training comes so late in the method. It is, in my opinion, a primordial muscle which is the basis of all postures and all movements.

Complete exercises :-)

Olivier Lafay had the good idea to select exercises that use large muscle groups . These "polyarticular" movements (using several joints) develop a harmonious physique and allow faster progress.

It's effective :-D

Last remark, and not least:the Lafay method is effective . We even observe phenomenal physical transformations in some practitioners.

However, not everyone has the goal of becoming an Ulk. No problem:the method is adaptable to our objectives (muscle gain, fat loss, search for sports performance).

Conclusion

I recommend the Lafay method from many points of view. Unfortunately, it doesn't put enough emphasis on execution and the feeling . With this in mind, the exercises would benefit from being performed more slowly.

Because of the results it offers (slimming, muscle gain, increased athletic performance), it is aimed primarily at a young public who above all want pecs, chocolate bars and well-rounded buttocks.

And the others then? I recommend free bodybuilding to them!
