An incredible case has come to light in China, involving criminals using drones for malicious purposes. The latter tried to contaminate pig farms in order to buy meat from them at low prices. The goal ? Sell this meat at a high price claiming that it is healthy!
In June 2019, we were talking about the biggest animal epidemic ever seen on the planet. Since the summer of 2018, several million pigs have been slaughtered in China as well as in Vietnam. In question ? African swine fever, a very contagious disease and above all having no treatment to date. It is estimated that more than 200 million pigs were at risk of being slaughtered in the long term, and this only in China.
The fact is that some profit from this terrible mishap. As the South China Morning Post explained in an article published on December 20, 2019, gangs got involved in the affair because of the soaring price of the pound of pork. Members of these organizations use drones carrying objects contaminated with swine fever. It was about dropping these objects on the farms in order to contaminate the animals.
By contaminating the farms, the gangs hope to recover the animals at very low prices . The objective is to resell the meat at a high price by passing it off as healthy. In addition, criminals also spread rumors of infection in order to scare operators and push them to sell. The use of drones has forced some farmers to defend themselves. Indeed, the latter now have jammers in order to prevent devices from passing over their domain. Unfortunately, this rather effective measure against drones had an impact that had not been calculated upstream.
Indeed,air traffic has been disrupted in the skies of Zhaozhou province in northeast China. Staff regularly observed loss of signal and sounded the alarm. Thus, the defense system of a breeder was discovered. However, the authorities were lenient with the man, understanding why the latter had used the famous jammer. Finally, nothing says that the Chinese authorities have a plan to stem the problem. This is obviously a very worrying matter insofar as the country is having great difficulty coping with this crisis.
