The cervical cancer vaccination campaign that was supposed to start again in September has been postponed until next year. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the Ministry of Health and the GGD announced this on Thursday.
Due to the expected big outbreak of the swine flu there is not expected to be time for the vaccination campaign this fall. In addition, the twelve-year-old girls who would receive the vaccine against the cancer may not even be vaccinated if they have a fever from the Swine flu the organizations say. The government and GGD departments are preparing for the outbreak of the Mexican flu on a large scale.
The vaccination against cervical cancer has been included in the National Immunization Program since this year. Young girls from the age of twelve receive a total of three injections. Girls aged thirteen to sixteen who have already started their vaccinations before the summer holidays can still get the remaining shots after the holidays. The authorities hope that the vaccination program can continue as usual next year.
