Do you have that too:the older you get, the more difficult it is to lose excess pounds. How come?
According to researchers at the Swedish Karolinska Institute, it has to do with the speed at which fat is converted and stored in the fat cells. That all goes a lot slower as you get older and that ensures that you carry those extra kilos with you.

For the study, 54 men and women were followed for 13 years. All participants showed a decrease in the rate of conversion of fats into adipose tissue, regardless of whether they lost or gained weight.
Can you do something about it? Well, previous studies have shown that more exercise can speed up the breakdown of fats. So couch-patato:get off that couch to lose those extra pounds!
Lotte's story in the September issue of Santé proves that it is possible. She came up with a challenge to get herself to exercise. “I participate in a running event every month for a year. For example, I want to rake together twelve medals and fill in a whole year with running. I choose running because you can do it whenever and wherever you want and because you have to train at least a few times a week to make progress. No more excuses.”
