Since the smoking ban, secondhand smoke has become less common, but we still breathe a lot of unhealthy air.
This is apparent from research by Milieudefensie. On average, we smoke five cigarettes a day, but the air quality differs greatly per city.
Most people smoke in Rotterdam:6.7 cigarettes a day. This is followed by Rijswijk with 6.6 cigarettes. In Amsterdam and Utrecht, an average of 6.4 cigarettes are smoked per day. The healthiest air can be found on Vlieland, where the average is 2.8 cigarettes per day.
At the beginning of August, Milieudefensie sued the state:according to them, the air quality in the Netherlands must be improved.
