Sleeping in tomorrow? Better not

Sleeping in tomorrow? Better not

Do you get up early during the week? Then researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have bad news for you:it would be best to get up early on the weekend.

The effect of social jet lag has been known for some time. After a weekend full of fun things, in which you go to bed later and sleep in, Monday is extra tough.

Varying bedtimes are bad for your health
In a new study, researchers have delved deeper into the matter and came to the conclusion that varying your bedtime has a negative impact on your health. For example, it was linked to poorer cholesterol levels, a higher BMI, a wider waistline and even heart problems.

Should we adjust our rhythm?
It is the first study to show this effect. If follow-up studies confirm the effect, it may be time to adjust our working hours better to our natural sleep rhythm, concludes one of the researchers.
