It has everything to do with what's on your counter.
The pitfall:letting unhealthy food roam on the counter
Many people have food on the counter:from a bag of chips to a carton of cornflakes. It may seem harmless, but research shows that it affects your eating habits.
240 kitchens examined
For the study, photos were taken of 240 kitchens. Everything was analysed:from the dimensions of the kitchen to what was on the counter.
Food in sight and your weight
One of the findings:if a bag of chips was visible somewhere in the kitchen, the resident of that house weighed on average 4 kilos more than the neighbors. Women who had a pack of breakfast cereals in sight even weighed almost 10 kilos more than the neighbor.
The solution You can probably guess how to solve this problem. Store all food neatly, but do put the fruit bowl on the counter. People who had the fruit bowl in sight, according to the research, weighed 3.5 kilos less than their neighbors.
The question is, of course, whether slimmer people have fruit bowls more often, or whether fruit bowls make you slimmer, but there's no harm in emptying your kitchen counter.
