There are more and more health apps. From a sleep monitor to a virtual dentist. The control on these apps is not yet optimal.
It is estimated that there are 95,000 health apps in circulation and their popularity is growing.
Reliability is difficult to check
But how do you know if an app is reliable and tested? At the moment that is actually still difficult. It is important to separate the wheat from the chaff, says Karin Oost, the head of Artsennet.
App as official tool
Work needs to be done on apps with a CE mark. The quality mark indicates that the app meets the European standard that is imposed on medical devices. At the moment, few Dutch apps have this approval and there should be more.
Second quality mark
In addition, a quality mark is being developed that can guarantee the reliability of medical apps. Those apps will then not be an official medical device, but will facilitate communication between doctor and patient, for example.
Do you ever use a health app?
