The new toll linked to the Chinese coronavirus epidemic is still growing. At the same time, 250 new French returned from China. Twenty of them seemed to show symptoms of the disease but the tests were ultimately negative. In addition, a new strain of the virus has possibly been identified, with a different mode of transmission.
As reported by the South China Morning Post on February 3, 2020, the latest assessment of the 2019-nCoV coronavirus epidemic reports of 17,387 confirmed cases and 361 deaths. Chinese authorities have declared 2,829 new cases and 57 additional deaths in one day, a sign that the epidemic is continuing and still getting stronger.
Elsewhere in the world, the number of cases is also increasing. Some countries are close to 20 cases . This is the case of Japan (20 cases), Thailand (19 cases), Singapore (18 cases) and South Korea (15 cases). In Europe, Germany is the country with the most cases (8) followed by France with 6 cases. Recall that the first death outside China was reported in the Philippines by local authorities.
In the early afternoon of February 2, a second plane from Wuhan landed in Istres. It carried 250 passengers of 30 different nationalities, including 65 French . According to Le Monde, about twenty returnees presented symptoms and were taken care of, the tests however showed that they were not affected by the disease.
Some of the French will go to the Carry-le-Rouet holiday center to join the first returnees. The authorities will place others in a school for firefighters officers located in Aix-en-Provence. For European nationals, transfers will take place with the help of the countries concerned.
As the Belgian daily Le Soir explains, there is talk of a possible new strain of the coronavirus. It could be spreadthrough the digestive system as well as bodily fluids. According to Chinese researchers, some patients showed symptoms of diarrhea but did not have a fever. In addition, faecal-oral contamination of the coronavirus could also be possible.
Finally, the G7 countries will work together to find a uniform response to the epidemic. There is talk of a conference call between the Ministers of Health of all these countries.
