Valentine's Day is just around the corner:the day when lovers give each other extra attention. But what do the sleeping rituals of lovers look like today? Do we go to bed at the same time or do we live past each other for that matter? Swiss Sense, a specialist in the field of sleep products, surveyed 1,000 Dutch people about this.
What seems? The majority (61%) crawl under the wool at the same time as their partner. Of the couples who do not go to bed at the same time, 71% of those surveyed say that they do so because they have a different rhythm than their partner. Other answers that are often given is that their partner needs less sleep (18%) and therefore hides under the sheets later or that they like to read before going to sleep (15%).
Although almost a third (31%) have a bad habit of checking their smartphone before going to bed – something that also bothers 36% of their partners – one in five Dutch (21%) still pass the day to speak with his or her partner. Also, 13% indicate that they usually make love to each other before going to sleep. Remarkably enough, there is less talking before going to sleep, as the age of the couple increases. For example, 41% of 18 to 34-year-olds say they chat with each other before going to sleep, while this is only 12% among 50 to 75-year-old Dutch people. A third (29%) of this group even say they go to sleep immediately.
Fortunately, many Dutch people do not go to bed with an argument:17% talk it out before going to sleep and even 38% have already solved the argument before entering the bedroom. The over-50s in particular like to bury their hatchet for a good night's sleep (59%), compared to the 35 to 49 year-olds (46%). Would you rather sleep on it before you talk the fight out? A quarter (25%) agree with this, especially the 50 to 75-year-olds (29%), compared to young people (14%).
