Because fall allergies can start earlier and last longer, it's important to start taking your allergy medicine at least two weeks before your symptoms normally start. Don't stop your meds until pollen counts have gone down for about two weeks – usually after the first frost.

Children may be allergic to dust in the classroom, or pollen may enter through open windows. And don't forget mold — often found in bathrooms and locker rooms — and pet dander that other kids can carry on clothes and backpacks. If you're coming from outside, make sure pollen doesn't come with you. Leave your shoes at the door and throw clothes in the washing machine.
