Do you eat green (leaf) vegetables such as broccoli and Brussels sprouts every day? Then you have no less than 14 percent less chance of type 2 diabetes.
British experts from the University of Leicester told the journal The British Medical Journal a few years ago that the risk of diabetes can be reduced by eating a lot of cabbage varieties † Fruits and other vegetables should not affect type 2 diabetes †
Green leafy vegetables
Why vegetables like spinach and Brussels sprouts be that good? Green leafy vegetables are rich in antioxidants such as beta-carotene and vitamin C. In addition, they contain a lot of magnesium † Previous studies have also shown that they are so healthy, but never before has a direct link between eating green leafy vegetables and the prevention of type 2 diabetes been established.
A side note:the scientists warn against not to conclude too early That eating fruits and vegetables doesn't do much when it comes to type 2 diabetes. More research is needed to unravel the exact link.
What is certain:eating fruit and vegetables reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and possibly cancer. Scientists from the University of Leicester therefore believe that dietary advice can be just as easily prescribed by doctors as prescribing a pill.
The investigation
The diabetes experts examined six studies from the United States, China and Finland involving a total of more than 223,000 men and women between the ages of 30 and 74.
First, questionnaires were used to determine what people had eaten over an average period of thirteen years. This was then again related to chronic diseases that the participants received later.
