High self-esteem not only makes you feel good, it also has many benefits for your physical health.
Researchers at the University of Canterbury found that people who think well of themselves can boost their heart and immune system so unconsciously protect.
The investigation
For an experiment, the 184 participants were given fictitious information about their intelligence and personality. This information in turn caused a greater or lower self-esteem † Then it was measured how the nervous system reacted and what the influence was on the heart. For yet another experiment, subjects were asked daily their self-esteem to give a number, after which a measurement took place.
And what turned out? A greater sense of self-esteem has a small, but very important effect on the nervous system † This is the first study to show that a change in self-esteem has a direct effect on people's health.
