Now that the summer holidays are (almost) over, the stress of getting everyone ready in the morning starts again. Filling the lunch boxes for lunch is one of the major stressors, because it has to be tasty, but also healthy. A combination that children find difficult. You as a parent can help to make the lunch box look as varied as possible.
Fruit maker BEAR has a number of tips!
To get enough fiber, vitamins, fats and minerals, vary as much as possible with vegetables, fruit, spreads and other snacks. This is not only healthy, but also keeps lunch surprising. This way your child is curious every day what is in his or her lunch box this time. A simple cheese sandwich is a lot more fun with a little tomato or avocado. And a peanut butter sandwich and some slices of fresh cucumber tastes just that little bit more exciting than just peanut butter. Do you have anything left over from dinner, like rice? Add some vegetables and lettuce and you have a delicious salad.
There is nothing more fun for a child than a cheerful lunch box. Therefore, vary with structure, shape and especially color. Red strawberries and snack carrots. A box of raisins and a handful of fresh walnuts or a whole wheat wrap with beet spread, chicken and spinach. A little time left? Then make small pancakes with whole wheat flour from blueberries or zucchini.
Research by a large supermarket chain shows that if children are allowed to make the lunch box themselves, they find it tastier and eat it more often. So let your children help make their lunch, which will make them appreciate it even more and proudly show it to their friends at school.
Of course you don't want to spend hours in the kitchen filling the lunch boxes. But that is not necessary! Always have fruit or dried fruit in your house. This way you always have something healthy and long-lasting at hand, which is also in the lunch box within a second. Dried fruit is the ideal substitute for a sweet snack. It has a nice sweet taste that kids love, while at the same time being a source of fiber, antioxidants, calcium and magnesium.
We all know, our kids love to play with food. This isn't always ideal, of course, but if you make it fun, sometimes it's okay. For example, cut an apple into special shapes or draw a face on the peel of the banana. This is how children open their lunch box every day with a big smile!
