Of the Dutch without knowledge of first aid, less than a third is prepared to use an AED to resuscitate someone. The Red Cross finds this worrying. And that while anyone can operate an AED.
The control room guides you with instructions and the AED often also gives spoken instructions. 75 percent of people with knowledge of first aid are willing to perform CPR.
Greater chance of survival
According to the Heart Foundation, 35 people die every day from cardiac arrest outside the hospital. If CPR is started within six minutes, the chance of survival increases by almost 50 percent.
