The investigation
Research from the University of Florida shows that eating shiitake daily is good for your immune system. To minimize the impact on the immune system, the participants were not allowed to be vegetarian or vegan. They were not allowed to drink tea, take antioxidant supplements and take any probiotics during the study. They were also allowed to drink a maximum of fourteen glasses of alcohol per week and eat seven servings of vegetables or fruit per day. Every day they ate 113 grams of shiitake.
Positive change
Blood samples were taken from the participants before and after the study. After the subjects studied had eaten shiitake every day, certain cells in the body functioned better, releasing less inflammatory proteins, which strengthens the immune system.
