It varies a bit:sometimes a glass of wine is good for you, other times it isn't. Fortunately, another study shows that red wine can still be good for your health.
Research published in Gastroenterology shows that red wine can be good for the gut. It concerns red wines that contain the substances polyphenol and resveratrol.
Polyphenols are substances that are also found in fruits and vegetables. Resveratrol is a substance that occurs in the skin of red grapes and that is good for your intestinal flora.
Thousands of people from the United States, Great Britain and the Netherlands were examined for the study. The participants were all twins and were interviewed about their diet and alcohol consumption.
It turned out that the red wine drinkers had a more diverse gut flora than those who never red wine drunk. A glass of red wine per day is enough for a positive effect. Heavy drinking is strongly discouraged by the researchers, as it is not good for your health.
