Blind people talk about the benefits of being blind:you are not afraid of heights, you can type really blind and on the radio you hear a goal in football before you see it on TV. But of course being blind mainly has disadvantages.
In 2020 there will be about 380,000 people with a visual impairment, which is 20 percent more than in 2009. This is partly due to the aging population and diseases such as diabetes. Demand for eye care is expected to increase by 300 percent.
Digitalization
Meanwhile, our society has become increasingly visual and digital. Although in principle a lot should be possible due to digital developments, they are not accessible to people with poor eyesight without adjustments.
Innovative solutions
Vereniging Bartiméus Sonneheerdt collects money for innovative ICT solutions, the development of special apps and coaching for young people during the collection week from 9 to 14 December.
Incentives
'80 percent of the stimuli from your environment come in through your eyes, imagine what it means if you have to miss that. We want to make people aware of what it means to be blind or partially sighted,' says Carla Aalderink, director of Vereniging Bartiméus Sonneheerdt.
But blind people aren't pathetic, the campaign isn't called The Benefit of Being Blind for nothing. But there are mainly disadvantages. We are working on solutions, but your support can be put to good use. Watch the campaign video below:
