At the end of a busy day, doing the dishes is probably the last thing you feel like doing. However, doing the dishes has an advantage.
Washing the dishes can be very relaxing, according to researchers from a small-scale study at Florida State University. They had two groups of students do the dishes. One group read a text beforehand about 'the importance of getting the job done' † The other group was encouraged to pay attention to the heat of the water, the smell of the detergent and the shapes of the dishes while washing dishes.
Mindful washing up
You probably feel it coming:the second group did 'mindful dishwashing' and that made them less nervous, it also stimulated their inspiration. The dishes have to be done anyway, then you better take advantage of it. It probably helps to first convince yourself that it really isn't that bad.
Not only do you practice mindfulness while washing dishes without knowing it. These moments are actually very mindful.
