Warts are harmless, but very annoying. Most people have experienced it at some point, and children are especially prone to it. What can you do about it?
Warts are caused by a virus. They are most common on all fours, but they can appear on different parts of the body. A wart can be smooth or callous, but also a cauliflower-like bump. Sometimes several warts occur together.
Prevent warts
You can't prevent warts, but you can reduce the chance of getting them:
– Walk barefoot in changing rooms and showers as little as possible.
– Try your hands and feet well keep it dry.
– Avoid biting nails and thumbs.
What can you do about warts?
In principle, you do not need to treat warts. They are harmless and eventually go away on their own. It can sometimes take years for a wart to disappear. In some cases, a wart is unsightly or painful when walking.
You can try the following:
– There are several wart remedies for sale at the drugstore. This can help, but some warts are too stubborn.
– You can have a wart touched up or removed at the doctor.
– If you suffer from a stubborn wart, you can have it removed under a local anaesthetic.
