When your gums are inflamed, you will mainly notice it because of the pain. You can also recognize it by a redder color, the gums may be a bit thicker and it will bleed quickly.

Your gums become inflamed when there is dirt or plaque on the border of your tooth and gums. In order for the inflammation to go away, this has to go. The most important solution is therefore good brushing. It takes a while, because brushing the gums is very painful.
Additional care
If your gums are inflamed, continue flossing and firing. You don't want more dirt to get in before the ignition gets out of hand. After flossing and brushing your teeth, you can rinse with mouthwash.
