Due to changes in health insurance, a rush for medicines is expected that will no longer be included in the basic package as of 1 January 2012. This is the opinion of a spokesperson for the Royal Dutch Society for the Promotion of Pharmacy (KNMP).
From 1 January, certain medications will no longer be reimbursed by the basic insurance † This has created a great demand for the relevant medicines. Consumers mainly try antacids and to stock up on the anti-smoking drug Champix.

The KNMP confirms the high demand for medicines and at the same time states that it is not happy with the cutbacks from the minister. The KNMP fears that people will no longer buy stomach acid inhibitors if they are no longer reimbursed, while these pills can actually save a lot of misery †
