Do you drag yourself out of bed despite a bad cold? Don't, this does not seem to benefit productivity at work.
Despite that emerging flu or that pounding headache, you still go to work in good spirits. Motivated? Yes, of course. Smart? Not really. A study by Concordia University shows that when people go to work sick, this does not benefit productivity.
Spiritually absent
Snoring employees are often physically present, but not mentally † Researcher Gary Johns studied 444 individuals. They reported that in the past six months they were mentally absent for an average of three days and have been physically absent for 1.8 days. Most absences were caused by illness † The result? The participants who are not afraid to call in sick from time to time reported significantly more physically absent days and fewer mentally absent days than those who went to work sick.

Uncertain about job
What also turned out? Especially people with a caring or teaching profession do not often stay at home and feel socially obliged to go to work. On the other hand, other employees feel the pressure from the organization to show up at the office † These are usually people who are insecure about their job. Employees who are sure of their job are not afraid to be absent for a day because of illness.
