Grapefruit is a very good fruit for your health thanks in particular to its contributions in vitamin C.
However, it has been revealed that grapefruit, when we take certain medications, can have adverse effects.
Explanations.
The media have been pinpointing for several years a problem coming from grapefruit, and its juice more particularly:it would enter into interaction with certain medications.
It could therefore decrease , or even cancel , their effects. Or, for some others, the reverse, causing an overdose, therefore an increase in adverse effects.
suspicions interactions relate to treatments for cardiovascular, diabetic, depressive or even migraine diseases.
Some clinical observations have also pointed the finger at contraceptive pills:a case in England, in particular, of phlebitis. Then the patient also suffered a thrombosis which was not caused by grapefruit, according to AFSSAPS.
In 2008, the French Agency for Sanitary Safety of Health Products provided information to health professionals , where she responded to these suspicions conveyed by the media.
Here's what she says:if the risks of reducing the effects of drugs have not been proven , there remain isolated cases of the risk of overdose .
As a precaution, tell your doctor if you suffer from certain conditions:
-Cancer
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Allergy
- Cholesterol
- Seizures
- Heart problems
Studies are still being conducted on the case of grapefruit juice, some of which are recent in Canada (by Professor David Bailey in particular), who talk again about these interactions. His fate is therefore not definitively fixed.
If you don't have the conditions listed above, you're not at great risk.
But if, despite your visit to the doctor , you still don't trust this beautiful citrus fruit... Prefer orange juice , which was cleared of all suspicion in 2008, and reduce your consumption of grapefruit segments in salads or as chewable fruit.
Did you know about these interactions? Are you suspicious of grapefruit with certain treatments? Tell me in comments.
