A quarter of the Dutch fear an increase in health insurance premiums

The health insurance premium will increase by 9 percent. Not good news, and a quarter of the Dutch say they fear they will run into financial problems.

With the HealthTracker communication consultancy Porter Novelli and De Vos &Jansen Healthcare conducted a survey among more than 600 Dutch people about the increase in health care premiums

Save
What turns out? Only a small proportion (16 percent) do not expect to be affected by the rising health care premium † Almost nine out of ten Dutch people call the average increase of approximately € 104 per year a significant increase and expect to have to save.

How will most Dutch people save? First on the daily groceries, then on luxury products, dinners and short holidays. A large proportion also indicate that they will work more.

The majority (almost half) completely disagree with the premium increase , regardless of possible improvements in health care. Nevertheless, 38.8 percent would have fewer problems with the premium increase if the quality of care improved. Also shorter waiting lists to compensate for future premium increases score high. 28.9 percent have a more lenient attitude to increased premiums if the waiting lists were shorter.

Adjustment of health care policy
More than half of the Dutch (58.6 percent) are considering insurance for fewer things † This measure is more often considered by Dutch people who are younger than 55 years of age. Increasing the deductible happens less quickly. Nevertheless, almost half (46.8 percent) consider to cut premiums in this way † Increasing the deductible is more often seen as an option by women and Dutch people under the age of thirty.
