Now that the year is coming to an end, many people are busy with their health insurance for the new year.
Like every year, the premium for the compulsory basic insurance (the amount you pay to the health insurer to be insured) is going up. The premium for a basic insurance policy can vary considerably between insurers. It is therefore wise to carefully consider whether you are staying with your current health insurer or switching to a new one, to ensure that you have the cheapest health insurance policy. Here we give you some tips on how to choose the right health insurance that suits your personal situation.
Choose the deductible
The legally required deductible (the amount that you pay in health care costs from the basic insurance before the health insurer proceeds to reimbursement) will remain the same this year as in 2019. The mandatory deductible for 2020 is therefore € 385. But you can also increase your deductible if
you think you will not incur healthcare costs. Your premium for your health insurance is then lower. You should keep in mind that you will have to pay more yourself if you incur unexpected healthcare costs.
Additional insurance:do or don't?
It is possible to take out supplementary insurance for care that is not paid for under the basic insurance. There are different types of supplementary insurance. This differs per insurance company. This includes insurance for the dentist, physiotherapy, alternative medicine, glasses and more. Which additional health insurance you take out depends on your personal and financial situation.
Choose a basic insurance The basic insurance is mandatory for everyone in the Netherlands and reimburses most of the care that is required, such as the general practitioner, hospital treatments and emergency care. If you use care from the basic package, you must first pay the deductible. Children up to the age of 18 are co-insured for free with their parents and have no deductible.
Will you stay or will you transfer? Today the new healthcare premiums and reimbursements for 2020 were announced. It is then wise to see if a lower premium can be found. Comparing health insurance policies based on your health care needs can save you a lot of money. Please note:the latest date on which you can cancel your health insurance is 31 December. You can take out new insurance up to and including 31 January 2020. This will then take effect retroactively from 1 January.
