The European Commission has proposed to ban sugar additives from fruit juices. The measure aims at healthier food.
In recent years, Europe has regularly sounded the alarm about increasing obesity and the associated health problems. After measures to limit the salt concentration in food products and to boost the consumption of fruit and vegetables, the Commission is now pushing for a total ban on sugar additives in fruit juices †
The proposal, which must be approved by the Member States and the European Parliament, does provide for an exception for nectar , a drink traditionally high in sugar. Those products must have a clear label about the addition of sugar get.

The Commission also wants the tomato now also European recognized as a type of fruit that can be used for the production of fruit juices.
