Sneaking out of bed in the middle of the night to sneak something out of the fridge or kitchen cupboard is not only bad for the line, but also disastrous for your teeth.
Danish research has shown that these nighttime eating moments , no matter what food, are extra harmful to your smile.
For six years, 2,217 participants measured the effect of eating times on their teeth. 8% of the participants are labeled as midnight snackers. People in this category eat a snack at least twice a week. After six years, the nocturnal eaters were found to have clearly more damage to their teeth † Even after adding other factors such as age, smoking or the consumption of sugars and carbohydrates, the difference was prominent.
According to the research team, this is due to the change in saliva production during your sleep. Saliva dries up overnight, leaving not enough saliva to remove food particles from the teeth.
