This infusion consists of 2 of the most relaxing plants:lavender and chamomile.
They are known to promote calm and sleep.
It is not known exactly what in chamomile gives it this little "sedative" effect. But according to some studies, chamomile contains apigenin which binds to GABA receptors in the brain.
This creates a reaction similar to that of anti-anxiety medications, such as Xanax.
GABA is the second most important amino acid in the body, playing a calming and sleep aiding role.
Lavender is a scent that has been used to unwind and relax for centuries.
A recent study showed that people exposed to its smell were more relaxed and would fall into drowsiness more easily.
- 1 teaspoon of lavender flowers
- 1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers
- 250 ml hot water
- milk or honey according to your taste (optional).
- Bring the water to a boil.
- In a tea ball or strainer, place the lavender and chamomile flowers.
- Put the ball in the cup and pour boiling water over it.
- Leave to infuse for 10 to 15 minutes. The longer the infusion, the stronger the flavor.
- Add milk and/or honey according to your taste.
- If you don't have a tea infuser, just pour the hot water over the herbs in a bowl and use a kitchen strainer to strain everything before drinking.
Here is a tasty recipe of hot milk, honey and a pinch of nutmeg.
This is your ticket to the arms of Morpheus!
The idea that hot milk promotes falling asleep comes to us from the depths of time.
Our ancestors, for generations, use it to fall asleep and it really works.
Studies have shown that milk does not increase tryptophan levels, contrary to what was thought.
On the other hand, it increases the internal temperature of the body, which relaxes you, calms you and helps you fall asleep better.
Warm milk seems to have a psychological effect that makes us feel calm and drowsy.
Maybe it takes us back to our early childhood?
L-tryptophan is a vital and essential amino acid for our rest.
It resembles serotonin, which can be converted into melatonin.
And it is the latter that regulates our sleep-wake cycles.
Eventually, as night approaches, you have more melatonin which tells your body "OK, it's time to sleep now".
Nutmeg is a powerful spice.
So much so that it is very possible to "overdose" on it and feel incredibly bad, or have hallucinations...
But rest assured, ingested in small doses, it is obviously safe.
It is an excellent natural sleep aid, thanks to its many chemical components that act in the same way as tranquilizers.
- 1 glass of milk (250 ml)
- 1 teaspoon (and up to 2 tablespoons) of honey
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg.
- Heat 250 ml of milk.
- Heat it until it's a little warmer than you can normally drink,
- Add the honey.
- Sprinkle with ground nutmeg, and let cool until drinkable.
- Drink about 30 minutes before bedtime.
- When you start to relax, keep drinking slowly and enjoy!
Ever since I tasted it, cherry juice has entered my daily routine.
Whether it's morning or evening, I can't do without it.
Plus, it really is an easy drink to make!
Cherries are rich in melatonin, the hormone that regulates our sleep and wake cycles.
So a glass of this tangy, yet sweet, ruby-red juice every morning and night will keep your sleep rhythm going.
Vanilla has a soothing scent.
Adding a drop of vanilla extract to cherry juice helps you feel calmer and fall asleep easier.
- 150 to 200 ml tart cherry juice
- 1 or 2 drops of vanilla extract
- In the morning, help yourself to about 150 ml of tart cherry juice and drink it entirely.
- In the evening, about an hour before bed, repeat the operation by adding a drop or two of vanilla extract (optional).
- I advise you to use vanilla only in the evening, because it really has a relaxing effect.
