Russia has developed the "first" vaccine against Covid-19, Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday during a video conference broadcast on television .
The race for a vaccine against the new coronavirus, which has already affected more than 20 million people worldwide and killed more than 736,000 of them, has been on for some time month. Currently, about 200 Covid-19 vaccines are under development in several countries, of which around 30 are in an advanced phase. These include the Moderna vaccine (United States) or that of the University of Oxford (England), promising commercialization in a few months.
Millions of lives potentially saved , obviously, but not only. The country that releases its first "official" vaccine will also have a real geopolitical advantage .
Russia, of course, has also been working for several months on developing several approaches. We learned in particular, through the site Bloomberg , that many Russian business leaders and politicians had already had access to an experimental solution against Covid-19 as early as April.
Since then, the situation seems to have accelerated. During a video conference broadcast across the country, the Russian President announced the completed development of a "first" coronavirus vaccine.
“This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered " , he said. "I know it's quite effective, gives long-lasting immunity ". The daughter of the Russian president would have even already benefited from this vaccine, he indicated. According to him, she would have had a little temperature, "and that's it “.
The solution will be released on January 1st , according to the National Drug Registry of the Ministry of Health. By then, several million doses could be produced.
At the last count, Russian health authorities reported 4,945 new cases of coronavirus contamination, bringing the total toll to 897,599 people affected. According to John Hopkins University, which refers, Russia is today the fourth country in the world hardest hit by the pandemic in terms of infections .
In the meantime, Indonesia has started testing the Chinese coronavirus vaccine candidate developed by the Sinovac Biotech laboratory on more than 1,600 volunteers. Called Coronavac, the latter is one of the few vaccines to be in phase III.
In addition, this vaccine is already currently being tested with 9,000 people in Brazil. This country remains today the fourth most affected in the world by the pandemic, with more than three million cases recorded and more than 100,000 victims.
