As everyone knows, pesticides pose a danger to people and the environment. While the French State has been clearly designated as the main responsible for a situation deemed difficult, it seems to ignore the requests of the France Nature Environnement association.
In a press release published on December 13, 2019, France Nature Environnement recalls that the showdown is not over. The fact is that the claims of certain mayors, associations and citizens are only rarely taken into account. Thus, the final decisions concerning the protection of the environment and health always belong to the prefects and other pesticide users.
Recall that the goal of France Nature Environnement is to establish truly effective zones for non-treatment with pesticides. This is all about health protection for local residents protection of water, air, soil and living things in general.
In October 2019, a public consultation took place, resulting in the drafting of 18 departmental charters . However, this initiative is that of the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA), opposing the establishment of national regulations. The results are obviously not up to par because the non-treatment areas are insufficient . In addition, there was talk of a dialogue that included too little of the associations mobilized on the issue.
France Nature Environnement therefore denounces this desire of the FNSEA to protect the use of pesticides to the detriment of health and the environment. However, the association also takes a dim view of the national regulations currently being prepared by the government. This would be completely disconnected from reality and public health issues.
All is not bad since some victories have been won in terms of the protection of waterways. Indeed, the modifications of an interministerial decree of 2017 removing certain watercourses from the maps have been called into question. However, a watercourse disappearing in this way no longer needs to be protected from pesticides! France Nature Environnement took legal action against these new decrees in the context of 25 legal proceedings. Thus the appeals made it possible to win no less than 8 victories pending further judgments.
