An American start-up has developed a new generation of casts intended for severe sprains and other fractures. This is a type of resin cast with breathable and waterproof properties! It will also still be possible for family and friends to draw on it.
Many people have been forced to wear a cast after an injury. Whether it's on the arm or the leg, it's never really pleasant. Indeed, the member is locked up and breathes very little. This is itchy which can sometimes be hellish, not to mention the possible smells. In addition, the plaster must absolutely not be exposed to water, which is particularly constraining to wash.
In order to remedy this kind of unpleasant situation, the American start-up Cast21 recently unveiled a completely new type of plaster. Made of resin, the latter has many advantages compared to conventional plasters. While correctly fulfilling its primary function which is to immobilize the limb, this new cast proves to be quite comfortable!
In the article published by Metro UK on November 20, 2019, Cast21's plaster was called revolutionary. Featuring large openings, this one is breathable as shown in the pictures. In other words, goodbye itching! In addition, it can go under water, so it is totally possible to shower with it and even clean it. It is also possible to paint and decorate it as desired, although the surface is smaller than in the case of conventional plaster.
This "plaster of the future" is applied quickly, namely about ten minutes only. It is a question of using liquid resin destined to solidify quickly in order to support the member. Moreover, this same process could be of interest to the military who are always looking for new emergency devices. However, it is definitely a solution that all hospitals could adopt. So, the next step for Cast21 is to test its prototypes in a few health facilities before proceeding to large-scale commercialization.
