Nasal hygiene has many health benefits. Often ill-informed, the French have not integrated this gesture into their routine. Find Dr. Lamblin's advice on video to perform an effective nasal wash.
We use salt water to clean our nose because our body is salty. Indeed, our physiological serum is composed of salt solution dosed at 9 grams per 1000. When you clean your nose daily, it is therefore important to use a serum that is not exchanged with the body. It is under these conditions that nasal washing can be performed repeatedly and for a long time.
In the event of infection, it is preferable to use a serum with a higher salt content, which will allow greater nasal decongestion and a favorable evolution of the infection. It is then advisable to return to a more isotonic serum.
The good nasal wash is the one we do daily. This washing must be simple and reproducible. It is advisable to start with a nasal fossa by tilting the head then the other nasal fossa. The serum will pass in the back of the nose or go back in front, it must be followed by a blowing nose and carried out in the morning and in the evening if possible.
The serum should be salty and isotonic for daily use. Several devices exist, some in the form of a pod, others in the form of a container that you can fill with a serum that you prepare yourself. Pressurized sprayers offer noticeable comfort. To motivate the patient to do this nasal wash, we therefore recommend these pressurized products first.
